House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will create a select committee to investigate the January 6 Capitol riot, according to The Hill.

Senate Republicans last month stunned the Democrats and blocked legislation to establish Pelosi’s January 6 commission.

The effort to open debate on a bill to create a commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol riot failed in the senate last month in a 54-35 vote.

60 votes were needed to move the bill forward.

6 Republican senators voted with the Democrats in favor of a January 6 commission.

The GOP finally successfully blocked the Democrats in its first filibuster of the Biden Administration last month so Pelosi is working around the GOP.

The Hill reported:

House Democrats will establish a special congressional committee to investigate the deadly Capitol attack of Jan. 6, according to a source familiar with the move.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced the decision to members of the Democrats’ Steering and Policy Committee Tuesday evening, the source said, indicating that party leaders have no intention of allowing the episode to pass without a deep-dive into its causes.

The select committee, to consist of lawmakers from both parties, was not the Democrats’ first choice for an investigative strategy. But Senate Republicans last month blocked legislation to establish an independent commission — modeled on the 9/11 commission — to conduct the probe.
