2 Chronicles 20:17 – You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

What battle is it that I have called you to fight?  Is it not to fight the good fight of faith?  Is it not to stand in the finished work of the cross, and to rest in the truth that the work is indeed finished?  I have not called you to defend yourself.  I have not called you to fight the enemy.  I have already defeated the enemy on your behalf.  Why would I need you to fight him?  He’s already defeated!

If the weapons of your warfare are not carnal, then your battle is not against men.  The weapons I have given you are mighty – for the pulling down of strongholds.  And where are these strongholds?  Are they not in your mind?  The weapons I have given you are mighty through me for the pulling down of strongholds and every high thing that is trying to exalt itself against the name of Christ.  What is it in your life that is trying to exalt itself against the name of Christ?  Is it fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, uncertainty?  I’ve given you weapons to pull those things down.

And how is this battle fought?  Is it not through your faith?  He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world.  The victory that overcomes the world is your faith!  How so?  Because, by faith you agree with me that the victory has already been won.  You don’t have to physically fight in this battle.  All you have to do is believe.  Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.

For one growing up in church, they could get the idea that sanctification is a process. That one becomes holier the closer he adheres to God's law and commandments now that they have received the free gift of salvation. However, righteousness is completely free! It is available to us through the finished work of Christ. It is all His doing. All His work! None of our own, lest we should boast. This is good news!

My natural mind does not see any value in this battle strategy – to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. Though my mind sees this as a sure way to be defeated – I will trust in the Lord my God.  Trust that His word is true, and that He will in no wise cast out His own who come to Him in faith because they have reasoned in their heart that His word is not only true, but that He who spoke is trustworthy and faithful.  He will ensure that His word will not return void.  It will accomplish that for which it was intended.  His promise will defend me!
