Psalm 3:1 – Oh Lord, I have so many enemies. So many are against me. 2 So many are saying, “God will never rescue him.” 3 But you oh Lord are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. For I cried out to the Lord, and He answered me from His holy mountain.

Call to me. I will answer you. Expect an answer. I will answer you. Many call to me, but never expect an answer. Sometimes they fail to see my answer, because it is not the answer they expect. But this is my promise to you – if you call, I will answer. Call, and keep on calling for I will answer you.

You say many are against you – that you have many enemies, but you failed to see that I am for you. I the Lord am not against you. You are not my enemy. I have called you my very own – my beloved son. If I am for you, who could possibly be against you?

Do not fail to realize that the enemy has been defeated. You don’t have “enemies,” you have an enemy. An enemy that has already been defeated. You have already been rescued from his hand. Lift up your head. Lift up your eyes. See me. I am your victory. Let me be your refuge and strength. Let my love surround you like a shield. This shield is your faith that I have given you. Let the shield of faith deflect every attack from the wicked one. Let it shield your eyes from all that he is doing to discourage you.

Look to me. I am the author and finisher of your faith. I am good and faithful to complete that good work that I began in you. Do not look for rescue – look to me. You’ve been rescued. Receive the gift of long-suffering. For if you will suffer long and endure to the end you will receive the victors crown of life. Lift up your head – your deliverer and redeemer has come. The day is won!

For one growing up in church, they could get the idea that sanctification is a process. That one becomes holier the closer he adheres to God's law and commandments now that they have received the free gift of salvation. However, righteousness is completely free! It is available to us through the finished work of Christ. It is all His doing. All His work! None of our own, lest we should boast. This is good news!
