Psalm 4:3 – You can be sure of this: the Lord set apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him… 8 I will lie down (in peace) and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.

Why do you worry my son? Why does anxiety fill your days? Do you not believe I am near? Do you think that I will not hear? Look at my promises for you. Look! I want you to be sure of my promises. I will answer you when you call. I will always answer – if not immediately, then always eventually.

Do not lose heart in the long-suffering. Long-suffering is the time between your call and my answer. Yet it is for the joy set before you that you can bear the fruit of long-suffering, with joy and expectancy. You can be sure that I will answer. You can be sure that if you ask, I will answer. If you seek, you will find. If you knock, the door will be opened to you. Long-suffering is the fruit you will bear in the time between the problem and the promise. Do not lose heart in the journey. I am faithful. You can be sure of this.

Rest. Rest assured that I am trustworthy and faithful. I will set a watch over my word to make sure it performs that which I intended for it. Lie down, sleep, and rest. Do not worry or be afraid. Let my peace fill your entire being, for I have given you a promise that I cannot break. Do not fail to enter into the promised land because of your unbelief. Unbelief will rob you of the promises. I swear you will never enter into my rest if you drawback because of unbelief. Instead, rest assured that when you call I will answer. Sleep in peace. I am watching over you to keep you safe.

For one growing up in church, they could get the idea that sanctification is a process. That one becomes holier the closer he adheres to God's law and commandments now that they have received the free gift of salvation. However, righteousness is completely free! It is available to us through the finished work of Christ. It is all His doing. All His work! None of our own, lest we should boast. This is good news!
